Who’s Ready For FREE STUFF?!?

Edit: Added in political bobbleheads photo.

The Rivermen announced today the promotional calendar for the 2012-2013 season. There look to be some fun items on here in addition to the fairly familiar things given away in years past.

Oct. 19, 2012 – Opening Night means a magnet schedule (5,000)

Oct. 27, 2012 – Team calendar

Nov. 3, 2012 – Presidential Bobblehead Giveaway Night.

The Rivermen will have 1,000 bobbleheads of both President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney that will be given away at different gates.  Fans can “cast their vote” by picking which gate they enter and which bobblehead they receive and the first candidate to run out will be declared the winner!

Nov. 10, 2012 – Hat giveaway night

Dec. 15, 2012 – Special jersey auction (design contest winner)

Jan. 19, 2013 – Zamboni bank giveaway

Jan. 26, 2013 – Ryan Reaves “bobblefist” giveaway

It’s a twist on the typical bobblehead where the head stays still while his fists move back-and-forth.

Feb. 16, 2013 – Kids jersey night (first 1,0000 kids 12 and younger)

Feb. 23, 2013 – Team poster giveaway

Mar. 17, 2013 – St. Patricks Day theme jerseys and auction

Mar. 23, 2013 – Kids hockey stick giveaway

Mar. 30, 2013 – FREE FOOD NIGHT (nomnomnom)

Apr. 6, 2013 – St. Louis Blues jersey and autcion

Also, fun on the run and Sunday skates are back:

After each Sunday game this year (except March 17 and April 21) fans can come down onto the ice and skate (please bring your own skates) and they will be joined by the entire Rivermen team Rivermen team following their games on Oct. 28, Dec. 2, 2013, Jan. 20, 2013 and March 24.

…anyone who knows me knows that I will be acquiring one of each of the political bobbleheads. I just can’t let something like that go.

…and a bobblefist? Yes, please.

…tell me what YOU are looking forward to the most in the comments!

Rivermen Sign Another Defensemen

From the Rivermen:

[Brent] Regner, 23, has spent the past two seasons with the AHL’s Springfield Falcons where he has developed into a playmaking defenseman.  Last year he led the Falcons defense with 29 assists and 31 points – both totals were career-highs. Over his three professional seasons, all of which have been played in the AHL, he has produced 70 points (12 goals, 58 assists) and 65 penalty minutes in 181 games.

Originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fifth round (#137 overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Regner spent four seasons with the Western Hockey Leagues’ Vancouver Giants.  In his final amateur season, the 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman led all Giants defensemen in scoring with 67 points in 70 games to set a Giants team record for most points in a season by a defenseman. He was also part of the Giants 2007 Memorial Cup championship.

… a puck moving blueliner? I like it.

… why the hell wasn’t Woywitka sent down to start the year in Peoria? The Blues are in effect “protecting” him by not having him go through waivers and risk being claimed.  He’s projected to be in STL at season’s start… whenever that may be.

… it would take a big brass set for a GM to be poaching the waiver wires right now. Evidence being that not a single player has been claimed. Could you imagine the GM heads imploding if the waiver wire opened up to a free for all?

The AHL Gets It

While much of the hockey world is doing the wailing and gnashing of teeth thing over the NHL lockout, the AHL seems to be poised to make an effort to grab what they can while the big boys aren’t working.

… #businessasusual

… brilliantly played, AHL. My hat is off to you fine people in Springfield.

Blues Assign Players to Rivermen

Following suit with other NHL teams ahead of the lockout the Blues assign a bevy of players to the Rivermen:

  • G: Jake Allen
  • G:Paul Karpowich
  • G: Mike McKenna
  • D: Taylor Chorney
  • D: Ian Cole
  • D: Mark Cundari
  • D: Cade Fairchild
  • D: Scott Ford
  • D: Brett Ponich
  • D: David Shields
  • F: Jay Barriball
  • F:Cody Beach
  • F: Adam Cracknell
  • F: Stefan Della Rovere
  • F: Evgeny Grachev
  • F: Philip McRae
  • F: Andrew Murray
  • F: Anthony Nigro
  • F: Anthony Peluso
  • F: Jaden Schwartz
  • F:Tyler Shattock
  • F: Brett Sonne
  • F: Vladimir Tarasenko
  • F: Sebastian Vannstrom.

…not totally shocked to see Tarasenko and Schwartz on this move, but still very excited. One or both had the possibility to make the Blues roster at the start of the season, but with the lockout looming and not exactly looking like it is going to get solved, it will be nice for Rivermen fans to get a good look at the phenoms.
