The annual Tip-A-Riv event is coming back, this time at Lariat Steakhouse in Peoria. The event turns the players into waiters (presumably meaning that Sterling is going to get a penalty for something while serving food… I kid, I kid) and raises money for the very worthy Angel of Hope Project.
For more info about the Angel of Hope Project and what it means to Assistant Coach Danny Brooks read the Eminian piece HERE.
From the Rivermen press release:
The event will begin with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. with attendees and players mingling and bidding on silent auction items. At 7 p.m. dinner will be served by the players and a live auction will follow.
Dinner will include Caesar salad, prime rib (or salmon), vegetables, baked potato (or wild rice) and turtle cheesecake. After dinner and the close of the silent auction at 8 p.m. there will be a live auction and karaoke with the Rivermen players.
Tickets for this fun-filled evening are going fast and are limited. They are on sale now for $60 per seat or $400 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchased at the sales table on the Carver Arena concourse during Rivermen home games or by calling Katie Kerr at (309) 680-3791.
As always I am a complete sucker for charitable works by the team, and I think that this event is a great way to bring in fans and the players together for some fun while benefiting a worthy cause. Past experiences have shown the event to be very helpful in raising some money.
The inaugural “Tip-A-Riv” Dinner was held on March 2, 2009 and raised $5,478 for the Children’s Hospital of Illinois. Last year’s event was held on March 16, 2011 and generated $6,000 to benefit “Cherish Every Moment – The Dax Locke Foundation.
Angels of Hope is a non-profit organization that raises money to construct statues around the country to serve as a beacon of hope for those suffering from the emotional and physical absence of a child. Each Angel of Hope statue costs approximately $14,500 and the hope is to raise enough money to have one placed in Peoria.
…excuse me, but I have some dust in my eye.
